Profile Information

My personal story:
I am a retired Friends pastor - 93 years of age and a dedicated peace lover. I have been a pacifist for well over 70 years. I spent 39 years of my life in one form of ministry or another in 4 different states. I am now living in Friends Fellowship Community and have been for nearly 9 years after suffering from two strokes just prior to that. I am married for the second time to a lovely woman named Rosalie. My first wife died after we were married over 61 years from a fall that broke her neck. .
Why I want peace:
I want peace because as a followerer of Jesus Christ I cannot conceive of him approving of war anywhere with all of the loss of life and the destruction of goods and property that follow in its wake.
Interests and activities:
Religion, sports, Computers and writing.
Something you didn't know about me:
I've not only been a minister, I've been a machinist, a carpenter, mason, an administrator and a printer.
How I found mepeace.org:
John Wilmerding invited me to join.
What I want to achieve here:
I would like to find some young person who would take up the mission of promoting the cause of peace.

I Have A Dream!

Yes, dear friends, in the familiar words of Martin Luther King Jr. "I have a dream." My dream is that somewhere out there someone will emerge with the vision of a world living in harmony rather than always being at war. I have a dream that some young man or woman will come out of the woodwork who will have the creativity and imagination to see that the only way for our world to survive is to live in peace. I am ninety years old and have had this dream for many years but I have always been rebutt… Continue

War etc.

To be able to live with myself I must express my views on war and why we continue to have wars with all of their terrible consequences. Just why is that we continue to have these disastrous wars every few years? Some psychologists have argued that while human temperament allows wars to occur, they only do so when mentally unbalanced men are in control of a nation. This extreme school of thought argues leaders that seek war such as Napoleon, Hitler, and Stalin were mentally abnormal. Perhaps Pres… Continue

Why I Am A Pacifist

by Earl J. Prignitz

For several hundred years following the death of Christ, there is absolutely no question that his followers were certain that he had forbidden war. As a result of many Christians refusal to participate in war they suffered the consequences of imprisonment and/or death. These facts are indisputable. A learned writer of the seventeenth century said, "It is as easy to obscure the sun at mid-day, as to deny that the primitive Christians renounced all revenge and war."

There are… Continue

A True Story By Faisal Al-Hatib
I am a Palestinian Arab from Hizmeh, a village between Jerusalem and Ramallah. When I was 15 years old I fought against the Israeli Occupation in search of freedom. At that time I thought every Jewish person, whether soldier or citizen, man or woman, young or old, should be killed. I rejected the right for any Jew to live and every Jew was a target. I was just a kid, believe me, and I didn’t understand anything about politics or the Arab-Israeli conflict. I was arrested and sat in jail for 12 years. This was during the first intifada from 1987. At that time nobody talked about peace but only of violence. I matured during my time in jail. I started studying and reading books on politics, literature, poetry, and about the Madrid Conference.

It gave me hope to live in peace and dignity. I learned that violence only breeds violence and that peace is the only solution for the two nations, the only way for both to have a respectful and beautiful future. We live on the same land. We are neighbors. We drink the same water and both pray to a monotheistic God. We must live in peace on the basis of religion for God and land for everyone.

Hello Mr Prignitz,

I am so glad to be part of this internet community and grateful to the founder as well. It is my fervent prayer to unite my country(Liberia) which has experienced civil war for over one decade and the civil war left the country polarized. I pray and hope that God will touch people to help me to get the requisite education that I need. I am presently residing in Ghana in exile. I will be glad to be in touch with you here. Sylvester
