Profile Information

My personal story:
.I have been interested in understanding myself and the world the largest part of my life. This has lead to the studying of different spiritual traditions.
Getting to know more how governments and media especiallly of large and rich nations have been manipulating with their citizens' views and trying to hide uncomfortable truths has served as one of the impulses to get involved more actively into peacemaking.
Why I want peace:
Inner and outer peace is necessary for our development as humans. Lack of peace multiplies problems between nations and their leaders as well as between peiople of different spiritual background. Wars destroy human lives as well as our natural envirnoment, places of living and the infrastructure necessary for harmonious life. Aggression of one side involved into the conflict often leads to the agression on the other side and can stimulate thoughts and acts of revenge.
Interests and activities:
I have been involved in anti-war acitons before the current Iraq war and during it's first years; as well as in activities against war in Lebanon in 2006. I am a long time Tibet supporter too.
Something you didn't know about me:
I have a very large human potential (as weel as all of us) which I havn't used in the best possible way until now
How I found mepeace.org:
A friend sent an invitation
What I want to achieve here:
Better understanding between people of different nations and different world views. New ways how to work with problems on the way to peace.
Do you promise to respect others and our guidelines and not spam?
Yes

Dear Janis,

I am pleased you agree to correspond with me. I am having trouble understanding how to talk to people on this site. I am very new to blogging and other similar networks.

In any event, because I know nothing about Riga, I have used Google Earth and other search to try and learn a little about where you live. I like the photographs I have seen of your city.

At this time I am unclear if the Baltic states are a part of Germany or otherwise discrete in some way - perhaps you can clarify for me. I have been to parts of Europe many years ago but I confess I did not learn much of the places I visited (mostly Spain/Greece/Sicily - basically Mediterranean shores as I was traveling by yacht at the time.

I can claim 1 second of fame for being the navigator of first south-bound YACHT through Suez canal after its 8 year closure (mid 1975). Apart from that I am invisible on any human radar screen.

Your basic philosophy.
---------------------------------
I reached a similar conclusion to yours (just try to get along with people whatever their background/history) when I was about 25 years old. Do you find the act is more difficult than the thought? I certainly do.

Yours Sincerely,
Jim Parr [ jim.parr@slingshot.co.nz ]

Dear Janis,

My name is Jim Parr. I am a New Zealand citizen living in City of Auckland. I have read your profile and I am impressed with your straightforward way of looking at the subject of World Peace.

I have no particular religious connections although I was raised in traditional Western Christian way. Like you I study different spiritual world-views. I think we might become friends.

Yours Sincerely.
Jim Parr
