Something To Observe From Hebron Accidents

Since I joined this site, I heard many times from different Israelis about Palestinian Terrorism and that all the difficulties and the injustice that we face we brought it to us by our hands, it was like if Palestinians would stop their terror attacks and if Palestinians would stop being terrorists, then this will happen and that would happen.......

Today for the first time in my life I opened the news paper to read instead of "Palestinian Terrorists" "Jewish Terrorists" I kind of laughed and felt funny, OTOH I felt with so many Israelis who don’t support these violation actions in any way and feel so shamed about what is going on by the name of their religion and nationality but are helpless. I know that those settlers are a bad sample while Judaism is so much better than that and so that’s why I didn’t start hating Jews after all these accidents now, but I hate what this group of people do and I hate the injustice that Palestinians have to face for the crazy thoughts of a bunch of people, while the responsible leadership about these settlers -who are supposed to be citizens of the state of Israel- is just watching in silence.

Now I wish that those Israelis who are going to blame all Palestinians and agree with the collective punishment for Palestinians as what is going on in Gaza now and Hebron also, will start to get the idea that as those settlers don’t represent the reality of them also the attacks happens by Palestinian perpetrators don’t represent the reality of them.

Marhabik, ya Hiba. You are right. It's an ugly picture, and not getting better. The history of the settlements is sad - arrogance, hatred, oppression. Let's see if Obama can push everyone in the right direction (the Geneva Accord might be a nice place to start). Ma'a salaama. Howard

Thank you Hiba for your empathy. It is always "interesting" when suddenly the situation reverses and you can understand what the other side feels and experiences. We are so separated at this point, it is hard to have those experiences and for the majority to see the other side as just as complex and fractured as our own side.

If you are interested, Olmert made a bold statement today condemning what happened. He used the term ‘pogrom’ which has historical significance to us Jews and in some ways is stronger than terrorism:

I hope things begin to change.

good point Hiba ..
imagine how full will be Palestinian prisons with such "Jews Terrorist" if we had the position and power Israel has.
Both sides should learn to replace their shoes.

I agree Oliver. It is interesting that honest attempts at communication are often greeted in places like this with jeers and patronising and derogatory presumptions about the perceived other's "real" intentions.

Yes, Paul, communication is crucial indeed. "Simplistic slogans" won't help in the long term, that's clear. But honest and clear communication requires courageousness on all sides. Slogans are, in my view, often (as you also imply above) an 'indiv...
