The Palestinian Resistance

What does it mean? What are the ways? Is violence the only way for resistance? Is when the word of resistance appear that means running in a circle of blood and revenge? I am a Palestinian and I work hard for my case and I RESIST, yes I resist but not by violating the other side and making it even harder for all of us who are living in the region. I resist by showing so clearly that I am a human being and a proud Palestinian who can live in peace and who in turn deserve to be given his own a… Continue

A Poem Called Turkish Children

I. The Faces from dirt and dust look pale. As they think nothing of their plight. They play all day in the goat-driven Yilanlikale, While the world looks down on their flight. II. The flight of maturing and learning to grow, Though the education of sewage stained streets. There will be no school to show them the road, Or to help them stand on both feet. III. The wide-eyed children with no hope in their eyes, Who know German, English, French, and their own. They act like eagles caged all their… Continue

Only We Can End the Conflict - An Israeli Jew in Gaza

In fact, this is already "old news" and probably everyone has already read this... I just received it once again in my mail and thought of posting it here - at least for the record... And, also, I think that Jeff's words are very powerful!! By JEFF HALPER August 5, 2008 In another few days, I will sail on one of the Free Gaza movement boats from Cyprus to Gaza. The mission is to break the Israeli siege, an absolutely illegal siege which has plunged a million and a half Pa… Continue

There Won't Be 'Peace' Without Democracy

By NATAN SHARANSKY and BASSEM EID August 8, 2008; link to the original article: here A tragic peace process turned to farce last weekend. After bloody clashes between Hamas and Fatah loyalists in the Gaza strip killed 11 Palestinians and injured 120 more, nearly 200 Palestinians associated with Fatah sought asylum in Israel. Some have been transferred to the West Bank cities of Jericho and Ramallah, where… Continue

My final posting

Ever since I have been on here, very few people here have taken me seriously. Recently, the threats made towards me via private messages from fellow 'peace makers' have made me realize that this place is not for me. I joined this website in order to help bridge gaps in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict because I felt that I have a unique perspective on the situation however it is a perspective that is clearly not wanted to be heard by many members of MePeace. I have much more important things to… Continue

The Struggle for Silwan

She has just completed My Happiness Bears No Relation to Happiness: A Poet's Life in the Palestinian Century, forthcoming from Yale. One of the founders and edit… Continue

We can create a Common Narrative

Many comments by many posters have left me with the impression that it should be possible to create a single narrative, based on objectively determinable facts, with which honest and well-meaning Israel supporters and Palestine supporters, could agree. Easiest example to find:: Marwa's - "What is happening to the Palestinians is similar to what happened to the Jews in early 1900s, the one reason that fascilitated the creation if Israel. So what is happening to the Palestinians is supposed to f… Continue

Is the American Jewish Voting block moving Right

History From the moment of their arrival in New Amsterdam one can document the unfolding of this unique connection between the North American continent and the Jewish people. Peter Stuyvesant, the then-governor of New Amsterdam, petitioned the Dutch West India Company, requesting the right to bar this community of Jews from settling in the colony. The company's response laid out the first core principle that has come to define the Jewish "contract" with America, directing Stuyvesant to permit Je… Continue

Not that enthusiastic about the so-called peace proposal

It's always so depressing. And it just gets worse. Buidling walls may slow down violence between two peoples but it won't stop it. Peace will. So Israel has proposed a peace plan to the Palestinians. The Israeli government wants to keep all of the major settlements in the West Bank and the land on the Israeli side of the Wall -- remember when everyone said the Wall wasn't permanent. It can be torn down. Don't worry! It's just an effort to stop violence and bring about peace. Yea, right! It's a… Continue
