My personal story:
I am from Wales but have an English accent after living in London for ten years. I did an art degree and I am now doing a mathematics degree (yes, quite a change, I know). I have always been interested in politics but being one of those awful people called the 'middle class type' I largely talk about it rather than do anything about it (maybe this website will change me). I dream of being able to play Chopin's Etudes, cook food that I would genuinly want to eat and not live in a country were nothing works (the underground, helath service etc.) and everybody behaves like world war two only ended yesterday. I am a bit of a dreamer and can get wildly sentimental when I have had a bit too much to drink. Well, it's good to dream.
Why I want peace:
Well, frankly that should be obvious - I don't want people to suffer. But to be honest I can't say I have any emotional attactment to the place: so the debates as to who the land belongs to quite simply passes me by. This might sound like I don't care but it is quite the opposite, having no ideological position all I see is human suffering. The various 'sides' and the bloody calculus of numbers that is hotly debated in the press is not the issue as far as I am concerned. This conflict is polarising world opinion to the extent that when a person is killed in the Middle East somebody from where I live will first ask if they were an Arab or a Jew, before saying that it is a human tragedy. Suffering is the same what ever your culture or religion. You might expect me to write: 'that is a sad world..blah, blah' well it isn't, it a stupid one. If your ideology means you cannot empathise with the suffering of another human being then I suggest it is not worth believing in. But the simply fact is this conflict appears to be encouraging this type of view. I do not see this land dispute as being any different from the many others that go on in the world but this is the the most polarising of them all. So I want peace in the Holy Land because I don't want people to suffer and because I am fed up with a world that responds to a human death by making a political statement.

Interests and activities:
I have lots of interest! Drinking, smoking, music, art, reading, politics, eating but not cooking and I hate exercise.
Something you didn't know about me:
Well, you don't know me - so I guess anything: Once when I was drunk I put my contact lenses in vodka.
How I found mepeace.org:
Through Haaretz.
What I want to achieve here:
I am depressed at the way in which a conflict that is costing so many lives is turned into a meaningless debate in my country (forgive me if I am repeating myself here, but it is true). There is a blind refusal to accept that it is perfectly possible to be pro palestian AND pro israeli. I fully understand that people who have suffered as a consequence of the conflict will feel bitterness and even hatred but it seems incresingly the case that people where I live feel they are entitled to express such emotions (even though they have not been to the Middle East let alone suffered personal tragedy) and become spokesman for the various parties. The voices of the ordinary Israeli and the ordinary Palestinian is drowned out in a self-righteous slaging match. I would like to hear what the ordinary person has to say. So what I want to archieve here can be expressed one sentence: I would like to listen rather than talk.

(This will genuinly surprise people I know because I have a reputation for being opinionated.)

Hi Max, thnx for being involved and thanks for the greetings.
After being an officer in the Israeli armed forces for ~20 years, I just knew I will get involved in reparing and healing and bridging. That's why, after retiring, I turned to working with organizations and movements of welfare and social change. I also knew, that at the right moment and situation I'll be involved with Israelis-Palestinans processes. Then the moment came - I met some guy, we became friends, and he told me he was working part-time in these dialogues, so I joined in. Since then I participated in several meetings and lately got involved as a facilitator of these meetings (as a volunteer of course). You can read a little bit about it in www.emergingfutures.org. I'm now looking for some more involvement - although it competes with the time I want to spend with my family and myself.
bye for now..

Hello Max

Thanks for your welcome and comment.

In response to your question, I spent my time in Jerusalem at my dear friend's home, from which she runs a non-profit organisation known as "Hechal". Their work revolves around universal spirituality and right human relations. You can learn more about them here: http://www.hechal.org/

Thanks for the link you posted in my profile. I am not acquainted with that particular organisation and look forward to learning more about their work.

Salaam, Shalom
